November 2008
Speaking of Colored Pencils, this month I joined an organization called the Colored Pencil Society of America.
I'd never heard of them but like many Societies of that kind, they generally turn out to be a good place for Artists of a
similar persuasion to gather together and share information and that's generally a worthwhile avenue to explore. I also
sent off the necessary information (and of course a check) for entry into the competition for the cover of HORSES IN ART.
I printed and submitted the image called SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON, so we'll see how that goes.
For a short trip near the end of the month, I went to Richmond, Texas and took some photographs of the dome
of the beautiful Richmond County Courthouse (yet to be rendered) and also several of some old structures around town which
have yielded so far two images, one called BACK PORCH MOORE HOUSE and another that has not been completed yet.
On Saturday September 22 I attended with some friends a street painting festival in downtown Houston called
VIA COLORI. I was one of the Via Colori artists for two years, but I must say that attending as a spectator is much easier on
both the knees and the back. I am a great admirer of an artist named MELANIE STIMMELL who every year amazes the crowd of onlookers with her paintings in chalk on asphalt. She is the only woman in the world
to have won the title of 'Maestro' and several Gold Medals in both Italy and Germany for this kind of street art.
Via Colori is something that I look forward to every year, and for photos taken at this year's event, please click here to view the Album.
