I
see pictures everywhere
and draw whatever catches my eye. Subject matter is relatively
unimportant, but good composition is essential and although I generally work from photographs I still go out into the field
and sketch in order to better understand the subtle nuances of color that exist in nature.
The camera is able to capture a moment in time and preserve it,
and it's that frozen image that serves as the basic building block for a drawing or painting. The objective is
of course to translate rather than copy the image, to bring out a more varied contrast of light, shade and
vibrant color than existed in the original photographic image.
The galleries below and the drawings they contain represent some of my personal interpretations in Pastel
and Colored Pencil of the intricate diversity of the world I see around me.
