This is a list of basic necessities that families are in need of when they arrive in the United States.  Donations are always welcomed and very much appreciated, but please...consider what you would give to Jesus.  Thank you.

CLOTHING

 

 

 

·         Men’s Clothing

Need new or gently used jeans, black pants, dress slacks, sport and dress shirts, sport jackets, sweaters, rain ‘ponchos’

Small to Medium, some large.  Men might often be able to wear a boy’s large size (16) rather than young adult..

Bhutanese men are physically smaller than American men and we are always in short supply.  Please nothing that needs to be DRY CLEANED.

·         Ladies’s Clothing

Skirts, pants, jeans, capris, sweaters, jackets, nice blouses (long and short sleeve) and sport tops.

Small to Medium (some large). Pants or skirts with elastic waist are excellent.

Bhutanese ladies also tend to be very small people.  Please nothing that needs to be DRY CLEANED or needs special care (like leather).

·         Girl’s Clothing

Gently used or new, infant to teen jeans, sport tops, T-shirts, capris, long shorts (see requirements for school clothes below), new panties, socks, bras and swim suits please.

 

 

·         Boy’s Clothing

Gently used or new, infant to teen jeans, shorts, T-shirts, (see requirement for school clothes below), swim trunks.

 

 

SHOES

 

 

 

·         Men’s shoes

Any shoes but emphasis on Sports shoes and dress shoes (gently used or new).

All sizes.  Average size is Men’s 8-9 (some 6 or 7)

 

·         Women’s shoes

Any shoes but emphasis on Sports shoes and dress shoes (gently used or new).

All sizes.  Average size is Ladies 5 -7 ½ (some 8)

 

·         Children’s shoes

Any shoes but emphasis on Sports shoes (gently used or new)

All sizes children’s shoes.  They wear Sports shoes to school.

 

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

 

 

 

·         Elementary School

The school uniform for Elementary School is KAKAI PANTS with WHITE POLO STYLE SHIRT

All sizes child 5-12 years

Shirts need to be solid color polo style but a small emblem is okay

·         Middle School

The school uniform for Middle School is KAKAI PANTS with WHITE OR GRAY POLO STYLE SHIRT.

All sizes child 12-15 years

Shirts need to be solid color polo style but a small emblem is okay

·         High School

 

The school uniform for HIGH SCHOOL is JEANS with WHITE POLO STYLE SHIRT (Unless the school is Lee High School in which case ANY COLLARED SHIRT with ANY PANT OF JEAN)

All sizes ages 16-19 years

INTERVIEW CLOTHES

 

 

 

·         For Men

Dress suit with jacket, nicer black shoes, dress shirts

Small to Medium (some large)

 

·         For Ladies

Modest dresses, skirts, suits with pants or skirt, nice shoes, darker colors in clothing preferred.

OTHER

 

 

 

·         Household Items

Cooking utensils such as rice cookers, stainless steel pans, dishes, forks, spoons, kitchen knives, glasses, mugs, bed linens, towels, blankets, etc.

When they arrive in the US Bhutanese families are given one plate, knife, spoon, fork, glass per person.

Rice is a staple (two meals per day) in the Bhutanese diet. 

·         Children’s toys

Gently used, clean, stuffed animals, toys with no small parts, anything that would be suitable for small children

 

It’s generally a good idea not to include toys that require batteries.

·         Games

Electronic games, Learning games (especially those that emphasize learning English), books, etc…

 

 

·         Cleaning supplies

Dishwashing detergent, sponges, laundry soap, hand soap, deodorant, paper towels, toilet paper

 

 

·         Personal hygiene items

Toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, etc..

 

 

·         Furniture

Desks, beds, small tables, lamps, floor lamps

 

 

·         Metro bus cards

Q cards in $5 denomination 

 

 

Most of the Bhutanese do not have any other transportation than public transportation

·         Gift cards

To places like Fiesta, Walmart, etc..

 

Gift cards are portable and can be replaced if stolen

FOOD

 

 

No canned foods please

·         Dry Foods

Such as rice, lentils

 

 

·         Vegetables

Fresh vegetables.

 

Many of the Bhutanese are strict vegetarians.

·         Fruit
